I wanted to take a moment to discuss the Great Flood that took place in Noah's day. This can be found in Genesis chapters 6-8. I once overheard someone having a discussion over this event, debating over the details of the flood. I looked up the word "earth" in Hebrew (erets). There are two distinct possibilities for the definition of this word:
The word "earth" can mean the earth "at large." Or, it can mean (partitively) "a land," or a given segment of land. What can we glean from this? Could it have been the entire face of the earth that was flooded? Yes, it is possible. On the other hand, judging by this word study of the Hebrew language, one may surmise that the land in question might not be the entirety of the planet, but only a smaller segment of land. If this is true, the flood reached at least as far north as Mt. Ararat (Turkey), and at least as far south as Egypt. Regardless of your personal opinion on the matter, it's a worthy discussion to have and its something to think about.
